At the China International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo, some renowned cultural heritages have been injected with new vitality. The ancient scroll painting "Riverside Scene of Qingming Festival", and the jewel of the crown of Tibetan art, Tangka, are on display, with some special effects.

Song dynasty scroll painting "Riverside Scene of Qingming Festival" was the stellar piece of the China Pavilion during the Shanghai World Expo. And the Cultural and Creative Industry Expo gets the painting moving again, using an LED screen to display the ancient masterpiece.

The painting, depicting the landscape of everyday life of people living along Bian River in the Song dynasty is seeing a revival thanks to the high-tech makeover.

Zhang Qing, Supervisor of Beijing Crystal Stone Media Group, said, "On each section of the scroll we’ve designed four to five viewing points. For example, we added a sedan procession to show a wedding ceremony, injecting some new life into the well-known ancient painting."

Tangka, an art type that prevails in the Tibetan region, has a history of one thousand years. Painted on satin with ore pigments, Tangka features religious stories as its theme and is hung on temples and households. But the inheritors have given the regional art a new twist.

Niang Ben,Inheritor of Tangka Painting, said, "The techniques used are mainly traditional, but the face of every Buddha has a three-dimensional feel, which we achieve by mixing up a modern painting approach with traditional techniques."

Niang Ben says novel ideas added to the making of the traditional art can give the art form a more enduring life span.
