
Thesis statement: English teaching test based on quality-oriented education is helpful for students in middle school to improve their ability of learning English.
Abstract: In our country, the teaching and test ways do not embody the students’ ability. This thesis has some ideas to solve this problems. Firstly, this thesis gets the results that the teachers teach what is examined and pay attention to train the grammar tules and ignore the students’ability of applying English through the investigation. In the third part, the thesis analyzes the quality, quality-oriented education and examination-oriented education and states the features and contents of quality-oriented education in English teaching. Furthermore,the thesis points out the test disobeys the quality-oriented education. In the forth part, the thesis analyzes the three ways of checking up the students’ability of applying English. Firstly, the teachers should change the ways of checking the students’ study on listening, speaking, reading and writing. Secondly, when the teachers design the test paper, should reduce the objective questions and increase subjective questions and cancel the multiple-choice. Finally, the teachers should not view the marks as a only standard to evaluate the students. These ways attach importance to the practical application. They embody the quality-oriented education.

1. Introduction
The teaching test is an important segment in English teaching in the middle school. In our country, the traditional way that teachs for examination and learns for examination affects development of the students’ ability. After the concept which is called quality-oriented education was mentioned in our country, people pay more and more attention to these questions. For example, GeBingFang set forth the measures of the quality-oriented education in English teaching. LinWeiGuo and PuRuLan ananlysed the quality-oriented education and the system of examination. SunPingHua and LiXiaoYan set forth a few ways of Engliah teaching in the middle school. However, the ways may not embody the quality-oriented education at all. Should we carry out English teaching test? How to carry out English teaching test? What is contained in English teaching test? How to reform English teaching test to satisfy the demands of quality-oriented education? It is necessary to talk about the ways of English teaching test to adapt the demands of new situation in order to cultivate man of ability who can apply English,
2. The current situation of English teaching test
With China'' entry to WTO and close intercourse between countries, English becomes an international language. Nearly100 million Chinese elementary and secondary school students, apart from English learners from other walks of life, are learning English. (www.syHs.net/Article show .asp?) In the middle school, English is necessary to be learned as a foreign language. Although the students may get high scores, they can not use the language correctly. They may say the grammar rules, but they do not know how to use it. Even many students can not open their mouths to speak English though they have learned English for several years. Why the phenomenon cropped up? These questions are focused on by more and more people. Owing to the traditional grammar-focused, teacher- centered and test -based classes in China, English is thought to be something dry and abstract or a subject similar to any other subject that the students are learning. What the students need to do at class is just to concentrate their attention on the teachers'' lectures, which always focus on vocabulary and grammar explanation. Furthermore, the teachers centre on the contents of English teaching test to teach. The traditional paper and pencil language test is often used. Vocabulary and grammar points are usually examined. It causes that they ignore the uses of English. However, foreign languages are important tools that people use to take in fruit of foreign civilizations and communicate for international co-operation. It is an indispensable basic skill for modern humans. So the purpose of learning English is to use it. In other word, English should be a tool that people use to communicate. The purpose of English teaching is to help foster an ability of making use of language knowledge and techniques. In line with China entry to WTO, the reforming of educational system in China is progressing with times and the tendency of quality-oriented education is taking the lead.
