Chinese dance drama, Dream of the Red Chamber, made its Arab world debut in Cairo Opera House on Monday evening, winning warm applauds from an international audience.
The drama is based on one of the famous four classic literature works of China, which includes more than 400 characters and depicts a wide range of social phenomenon and the life of upper- class families in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

It tells a tragic love story of three young characters, the much coddled but rebellious boy Baoyu, being gallant to both of his cousins Daiyu and Baochai. Baoyu's vain struggle against his suffocating feudal family finally resulted in the death of his true love Daiyu, and an unwanted marriage with Baochai.

As one of the most studied Chinese novels, Dream of the Red Chamber is known for its nuanced depiction of characters, profound observation of the society and ravishing storylines and writing style. The drama will be on show in Cairo until July 8, and will then move to the second largest Egyptian city Alexandria for another two shows.
